Burger King accused of ‘disregard for safety’ over outdoor seating

A RESIDENT has accused Burger King of a “total disregard for public safety” after it placed a bench outside a restaurant.

The seating has been repositioned outside the branch at Nunnery Park service station, obstructing pushchairs or wheelchairs, according to Deborah Downey.

Ms Downey said: “We saw the benches being repositioned to the middle of the footpath, which limits access by pushchairs or wheelchairs.

“Even able-bodied people had to make adjustments to get through the remaining gap.”

Ms Downey, from St John’s, explained that many people use the main car park at the Horn Hill Road services and use the route as they walk over to the retailers.

“The route on foot is now almost blocked by the benches forcing pedestrians to walk through a very busy forecourt, as the safe route is no longer available,” she said.

“We did question the issue with the team to be told, ‘It has been authorised by head office’.

“This is a public throughway which is now blocked off.”

Ms Downey added: “This is disappointing to see, a total disregard for public safety and accessibility for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

“These benches are now firmly fixed to the ground.”

The branch opened last summer as an extension of the Motor Fuel Group’s (MFG) Nunnery Park service station.
