The fire service said they isolated the vehicle’s battery, before leaving the scene.

By 12.15pm, all lanes had reopened and traffic started to return to normal.

“We received multiple calls from 10.31am to a vehicle on fire, that was confirmed to be a car,” a spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said.

“We sent two fire appliances and it was one car that had been 100 per cent destroyed by fire.

“We also sent two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.

“We isolated the battery.”
