A nurse who helped save a resident’s life has been honoured for her dedication and compassion.
Jenny Gordon, clinical lead at Dorset House Nursing Home in Droitwich Spa, was named winner of the Good Nurse Award at this year’s Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards.
The awards, organised by Newsquest, publishers of the Worcester News, in association with West Midlands Hospital and Stourside Hospital, celebrate outstanding contributions across the sector.
Ms Gordon has spent more than a decade caring for residents and supporting families, earning praise for her calm professionalism and commitment to doing what is right.
Cheryl Walne, regional manager at Rotherwood Healthcare and the colleague who nominated Ms Gordon, described her as “like a swan gliding across water” — calm and composed even when faced with challenging situations.
During one incident at the home her quick thinking helped save a resident’s life after they began choking.
She responded quickly and confidently, using her clinical training to prevent a tragedy.
Ms Gordon has also been recognised for her determination to advocate for residents in day-to-day care.
When she noticed a change to a resident’s medication change had a negative effect, she challenged the decision until the medication was reinstated.

Lisa Davis, a colleague, said: “I have seen her save lives through her own ability and clear thought.
“The world is a better place for Jenny being in it.”
In addition to her clinical duties, Ms Gordon mentors newer nurses and shares her knowledge with the wider team.
She is known for speaking up when a resident’s needs are not being met and for going above and beyond to ensure their voices are heard.
The award also reflects the wider support, kindness and reassurance she provides to both colleagues and families.
