Cheers to nine years! Couple mark pub anniversary with new addition

A COUPLE are drawing on some Greek inspiration as they mark nine years in charge of a country pub with a new Sunday menu.

Steve Moorman and Viki Kuhlke are launching the Mediterranean –themed offering at the Red Lion in Cradley to reflect the milestone and the summer season.

Classic dishes such as slow cooked Greek roast lamb with lemon potatoes, gigantes, known in English as butter beans, pork yiouvetsi with tomatoes, wine and orzo pasta, and starters including calamari with garlic salt will now preside.

The couple spent more than two decades living in Crete, where their hospitality work included opening a snack bar before simultaneously operating a hotel and travel company.

When they took on the Stiffords Bridge pub, they found it in need of care and attention, and carried out a full refurbishment in line with their vision to restore it as a community asset and place for good company, beer and food.

They also began specialising in Mediterranean food, with Ms Kuhlke as the main chef.

Launching this Sunday (June 7), the new menu will reflect the week-round offering, with a few new dishes from the Olympic country added in.

“Over the nine years we’ve come through road closures and Covid lockdowns and we’re still here,” Steve said.

“As the anniversary approaches, we’re inviting people to mark this special occasion with us by trying something different for their Sunday lunch and soaking up the flavours of the Mediterranean.”
