City pub goes up for sale as pub company ‘explores all options’

A CITY centre pub has gone up for sale as the pub company says it is “exploring all options”.

Ye Olde Talbot, a pub and hotel on Friar Street is being listed for sale by Savills estate agents, for an undisclosed asking price.

The site, which is open and trading as normal, is owned by pub company Greene King.

A spokesperson for the pub said that it was “exploring all options” for its future and that staff had been made aware of the sale.

“Ye Olde Talbot is currently open and trading as normal,” the spokesperson said.

“However, we are exploring all options available to us regarding the future of the hotel.

“The team has been notified, and we will be able to share more information in due course.”

The building is described as a “traditional” 13th century coaching inn, which has been Grade II listed since 1954.

It has a large bar and restaurant area with seating for 76 customers on the ground floors, as well as toilets and a catering kitchen, with a function suite on the first floor and outdoor seating for 12 people in the courtyard.

The hotel accommodation is set across the ground and first floor, with a total of 29 ensuite rooms, in addition to a two-bedroom staff flat in the attic.

The freehold of the property is being listed for sale, with a leasehold element expiring in December 2068.

Ye Olde Talbot is said to be one of a number of Greene King pubs currently on the market across the UK as the chain plans to review its estate.
