Electrician crowned regional apprentice of the year

A Worcester apprentice electrician has been named Regional Electrical Apprentice of the Year.

James Lumley, 30, from Warndon Villages, received the title in the West Region at the JTL Regional Awards 2026, sponsored by Scolmore.

Mr Lumley, who completed his apprenticeship with JTL and now works for Goodridge Electrical, was recognised for his technical ability, commitment to learning and on-site performance.

He is now in the running for a national award at the JTL National Apprenticeship Awards 2026 at Plaisterers’ Hall in London.

Mr Lumley said: “This recognition means a lot to me.

“I’ve put a great deal into my apprenticeship and gained valuable experience, so it’s brilliant to have that acknowledged.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me and excited to represent the Worcester and the West region at the National Awards.”

Steve Goodridge, managing director of Goodridge Electrical, praised Mr Lumley’s dedication.

He said: “James’ achievement is something we are extremely proud of.

“We have supported him throughout his apprenticeship, and it has been fantastic to see him develop into a fully qualified electrician and a valued member of our team.

“James has a very bright future ahead of him, and we are all looking forward to seeing him represent us at the National Awards.”

James is shortlisted for the Paul McNaughton National Electrical Apprentice of the Year award, sponsored by Edmundson Electrical.

Oliver Schofield, Mr Lumley’s training officer at JTL, said: “We’re incredibly proud of James’ achievements.

“His progress has been impressive, and we’re excited to see him continue that journey at the National Awards.”

Chris Claydon, chief executive of JTL, said Mr Lumley’s success highlights the value of apprenticeship training.

He said: “James is a fantastic example of the talent coming through our industry and this recognition is well deserved.

“Their achievements demonstrate the impact that high-quality apprenticeship training can have.

“These trades are pivotal to the UK economy; they give individuals a career for life and it’s a privilege to be part of their journey.

“We look forward to celebrating their success at the National Awards in June.”
