Equipment in park will be fenced off for longer after act of vandalism

EQUIPMENT for the youngest users of a playground in Malvern will now be fenced off for even longer than planned after an act of vandalism.

After complaints on social media about some of the equipment in Victoria Park being out of use, Malvern Town Council has explained why.

One parent expressed their frustrations that the two items, one in the main play area and one in the toddler area, were out of use just two months after the park’s major refurbishment was completed.

The council said that contractors had attended the park last week to carry out minor repairs, with the titan spinner expected to reopen on Monday, October 12.

Meanwhile the multi-play toddler unit, which had been fenced off as it awaited repairs, was vandalised overnight between Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9.

Malvern Town Council said this meant additional repair work was needed and that the equipment would remain out of use for longer.

“The contractors returned to site last week to carry out some minor repairs identified at the final inspection stage,” a council spokesperson said.

“The repairs to the titan spinner are now complete, and this equipment will be opened later today.

“Sadly, the repairs to the multi-play toddler unit, despite being fenced off,  were vandalised overnight on Thursday into Friday last week and the resulting additional repair work has caused delays to its re-opening which are outside of our control.

“It is sad to see new play equipment being damaged in this way.”

The playground in Victoria Park underwent a significant refurbishment over the summer, with a variety of new equipment having been installed, including a slide, an inclusive seesaw, a titan, a whizzer, a large trampoline, play panels and sensory tokens.

The project took weeks, with reopening having initially planned to take place before the start of the summer holidays but extreme heat in June meant it didn’t reopen until August.

New equipment was also installed in the toddler area in 2025.
