After a decade apart, two football teams are set to meet again for a special charity match.
Hereford FC and Worcester City will face each other on Tuesday, July 21 at the M&M Edgar Street Stadium in Hereford, with hospitality proceeds and a portion of match ticket sales supporting St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester and St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford.
Ria Simons, corporate fundraising lead at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We know there are many Worcester City supporters with loved ones and friends who will have benefitted from the free, compassionate care provided by St Richard’s.
“We hope this game is an opportunity for them to support their favourite team and their local hospice.”
The Warndon Villages Tigers under 12s team will form a guard of honour at the match, representing Worcester City and St Richard’s Hospice.
The young players recently completed a 10-mile sponsored walk on the Malvern Hills, raising more than £1,600 for the hospice.
It’s hoped that its mascot for the game will be a five-year-old football fan whose mother has been cared for at the hospice’s In-Patient Unit.
The match is hoped to become an annual event in support of the two hospices.
Tickets are available through Hereford FC’s website.
VIP hospitality packages are also available in the Hereford Suite and include a two-course meal, seating in the Merton Stand, and an appearance from guest speaker Gary Stevens, who has played for both clubs.
Hospitality tickets can be booked through St Richard’s website.
St Richard’s Hospice supports more than 3,000 patients, family members, and bereaved people across Worcestershire each year.
It will cost around £12 million to run the hospice this year, which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.
Most of this funding comes from voluntary contributions, including donations, gifts in wills, retail income, and events, with the remainder provided by the NHS.
More information about the hospice’s services is available on the St Richard’s website.
