A REWARDING pint is never far away on walks in Worcester and its surrounding areas – but it doesn’t have to be all about the booze.
Here are five ideas for outdoor adventures that are as much about the rich history and attractive scenery as the liquid refreshment.
Stunning views, wildlife, nature, local history and regional pride are as much part of the mix as the licensed premises in these beauty spots.
They include the Malvern Pedway Circular close to home and Warwick PubFest with plenty of family-friendly options farther afield.
Here are walking ideas with great pubs along the way:
1. Kleve Walk and Malvern Pedway Circular (4km, easy)
Starting close to Worcester’s riverfront, this well-marked loop takes in the River Severn, a series of footbridges and open meadows with views towards the Malvern Hills.
Ideal for a lunchtime escape or an after-work stroll, this walk packs plenty of variety into a compact circuit
2. Pitchcroft and Diglis Basin Loop (9km, easy–moderate)
For a longer but still gentle day out, this 9km circular follows the Severn’s banks, passing Worcester Railway Viaduct, Worcester Cathedral and the busy Diglis Basin.
The mix of urban and riverside scenery makes this one of Worcester’s most varied walks.
3. Fairfield Circular from The Wildmoor Oak, Bromsgrove (5km, easy)
Just north of Worcester, The Wildmoor Oak in Bromsgrove is the perfect launch point for the Fairfield Circular, a gentle 5km loop through open fields and rolling countryside.
This route is especially popular with dog walkers and families looking for a straightforward ramble with a clear finish
4. Bredon Hill Circular from The Queen Elizabeth Inn, Elmley Castle (10km, moderate)
For a more energetic outing, the Bredon Hill Circular from The Queen Elizabeth Inn near Pershore offers sweeping views across the Vale of Evesham and beyond.
This is the walk to choose on a clear day, when the Malverns, Cotswolds and even the Welsh hills can be spotted on the horizon
5. Warwick PubFest
This a chance to explore the best of Warwick, with the spine of the festival stretching from the Castle Inn on West Street all the way down to the Slaughterhouse Brewery and Tap Room, a short 30 minute walk away just off the main Emscote Road
