Gruelling 250-mile cycling challenge to tackle loneliness

Employees from a parks and marinas company are set to tackle a 250-mile cycling challenge for charity.

The team from the Tingdene Group, one of the UK’s leading operators of residential parks, holiday parks and marinas, will set off from Upton Lake & Marina to cycle to North Denes Caravan Park in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in aid of the Marmalade Trust.

The challenge, dubbed ‘Pedal for Purpose’, aims to raise £15,000 for the charity, which is dedicated to tackling loneliness.

The journey will take place over three demanding days with two overnight stops, starting on Thursday, September 3, and finishing on Saturday, September 5.

Riders will make stops at various Tingdene Group locations along the way.

Ethan Zone, CEO and managing director of Tingdene Group, who will be taking part, said: “At Tingdene Group we work with multiple charities and community initiatives across the UK.

“Our 2026 Tingdene Group Foundation partnership with Marmalade Trust aligns with our internal team messaging to make deliberate and positive impacts across our customers, residents, property owners and berthholders.

“Loneliness impacts everyone, particularly amongst the elderly population.

“We see a direct purpose match between our operations and Marmalade Trust in an attempt to tackle the stigma and provide avenues for anyone connected with our business to find support and help that they might need.”

The team will leave Upton Lake & Marina on Thursday, September 3, to cover an approximately 80-mile stretch to Northampton.

The following day, the team will cover around 100 miles, stopping at the Tingdene Group head office in Wellingborough, Pavenham Park in Bedfordshire, and Hartford Marina in Cambridgeshire, before an overnight stop in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

The final leg on Saturday, September 5, will see the cyclists ride approximately 66 miles to the finish line at Tingdene’s North Denes Caravan Park in Lowestoft.

The finish line celebration will include refreshments, the announcement of the final fundraising total, and an opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the challenge, from the cyclists themselves to the support vehicle team and colleagues joining the ride at various stages along the route.
