A wildlife lover has spoken of her horror after a developer bulldozed through a hedge she says was full of nesting birds.
Johanne Tisdale filmed the bulldozer ploughing through a hedge at the St Modwen development at Pear Tree Fields at Taylors Lane, Broomhall, near Worcester, on Thursday (May 14).
Mrs Tisdale, who lives nearby, said the incident happened at around 2pm and claims the hedge was filled with ‘nesting birds and their babies’.
At the time, she approached a senior site person and says he ‘shrugged’ and told her ‘we can do what we like, it’s not protected, anyway it’s not nesting time, no birds there we have checked’.
Mrs Tisdale added: “I invited the site person to visit my garden to watch the garden birds come to get food to take to their young and /or feed their young here.
“He laughed and declined.
“The site won’t be finished so if hedging is to be removed, it didn’t have to be now.”

She explained that since she moved into a house on Taylors Lane in March 2024, she had tried to create a nice environment for birds because she did not want to see further declines in the bird population.
Birds spotted nearby include robins, goldfinches, wrens and spotted woodpeckers.
“I saw the bulldozer just force its way through the hedgerow. I found it really upsetting. There could have been any number of birds in there with their young. I thought it showed a complete disregard for nature and the environment.”
We approached St Modwen for a comment but they were not available by the time we went to press.
