Lights to be lit in memory of loved ones this Christmas

Hundreds of lights will be lit across Worcestershire this Christmas in memory of loved ones.

Part of St Richard’s Hospice’s annual Lights of Love campaign, the twinkling tributes will shine across Worcestershire as part of an appeal that has been running for more than 20 years.

Laura Clarke, campaigns fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “The festive season often sees us reflecting on the wonderful people who have made a difference to our lives, particularly those who are loved and no longer with us.

“We look forward to celebrating and remembering loved ones again this year.”

Two Lights of Love services will take place at Worcester Cathedral at 2.30pm and 7pm on Friday, November 20.

The choir from Kings Hawford will perform at the afternoon service, while the RGS Senior School Choir will sing at the evening event.

Following the evening service, a procession will make its way to St Andrew’s Spire, where the Lights of Love tree will be illuminated accompanied by music from the Worcester Salvation Army.

Mrs Clarke said: “Our Lights of Love services and switch-on event hold a special place in hearts across our community.

“The events are free to attend, open to all, and are the perfect way to pay tribute to those we hold dear.”

Names of those being remembered will be displayed around St Andrew’s Spire and published in the Worcester News on Christmas Eve, if you wish.

Lights can be dedicated online at www.strichards.org.uk/lights-of-love or by calling the fundraising team on 01905 958262.

Supporters who dedicate and donate online can have a personal message and photo displayed on the St Richard’s online dedication webpage.

The campaign is sponsored by Fisher German and supported by Worcester Cathedral, Worcester City Council, Leigh Sinton Farm & Nurseries, Black Pear Electrical, Giglight, Kings School Worcester, RGS Worcester, Worcester Salvation Army, Heart of Worcestershire (HOW) College and Bidfood.

St Richard’s Hospice supports more than 3,000 people across Worcestershire each year.

It relies on voluntary support, including from donations, gifts in Wills, retail and events for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
