Quick-thinking firefighters avert major crop fire in Worcestershire village

QUICK-thinking firefighters prevented a potentially serious crop fire from spreading in Drakes Broughton.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service stopped a crop fire from becoming far worse this afternoon (Monday).

A spokesperson for Pershore Fire Station said: “Rapid intervention from our crews this afternoon prevented another standing crop fire, this time in Drakes Broughton.

“We were backed up by colleagues from Evesham Fire Station.

“Crews used hose reels, water backpacks, and beaters to prevent this fire from getting into the crop.”

The incident comes amid continued dry conditions, with firefighters using specialist equipment to bring several blazes under control across Worcestershire in the last few days.
