Richard Hammond’s business set to close after 18 years as it enters liquidation

A television production company founded and owned by Richard Hammond is shutting down after 18 years, having entered voluntary liquidation.

Hammond rose to fame as host of Top Gear and The Grand Tour, alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

Along with his TV roles, Hammond also owns several businesses, including Chimp Productions (TV production) and The Smallest Cog (classic car restoration).

The 56-year-old also previously owned Hamster’s Wheel Productions along with his now ex-wife, Amanda (Mindy).

Hammond and his wife separated last year after 28 years, and two children together.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the TV star said: “Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.

“We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created.

“We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time.”

A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently. Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters. We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created. We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy

Now, after 18 years in business, Hamster’s Wheel Productions has entered liquidation and is set to shut down.

A winding-up notice was issued in September, with Neil Bennett and Alex Cadwallader of Leonard Curtis appointed joint liquidators, according to The Gazette.

A Declaration of Solvency notice on Companies House reported that Hamster’s Wheel Productions has nearly £4 million in assets.

The company is expected to have a surplus of £3.88 million after settling debts and covering the costs of liquidation.

Leonard Curtis (liquidators) were contacted for comment.

Hamster’s Wheel Productions was established in January 2008 and was responsible for programmes including Blast Lab, Wild Weather, and Lab Rats.
