Terror warning for summer events as threat level at severe

THE police have issued a warning over potential terrorist threats at summer events in Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police has urged the public to remain vigilant during summer events from festivals to summer holiday activities with the terror threat level at ‘severe’.

Chief Superintendent Edd Williams, Prevent lead for West Mercia Police, said: “I want to reassure our communities that our advice is not linked to any specific intelligence linked to our region, it’s simply a timely reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious.

“We’re working alongside local venues, event organisers and businesses to help keep events safe, and we’re asking the public to play their part too.

“By staying alert and sharing this advice with friends, family and colleagues, we can all contribute to keeping our communities even safer.

“Trust your instincts. If you see something unusual or something that doesn’t feel right, report it straight away – don’t assume someone else will.”

West Mercia Police are working with Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands to promote vigilance throughout the summer season.

Individuals are encouraged to report anything that seems out of place or suspicious to security staff on site, police officers, or online at gov.uk/ACT.

Additional security guidance is also available on ProtectUK.

If you believe something poses an immediate danger, call 999 without delay.

The severe threat level means that an attack is considered highly likely and follows a recent rise in the national terrorist threat. Police stress that being aware of your surroundings can make a crucial difference.
