Tesco shoppers can get free blood pressure checks this summer – Here’s how

Tesco shoppers can get their blood pressure checked for free while picking up groceries.

The supermarket is offering no-cost health checks through its in-store pharmacies with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to promote heart health during the FIFA World Cup.

More than 50,000 checks are available each week across over 350 Tesco pharmacies, and the test takes just five minutes to complete.

The service is quick, requires no appointment, and is delivered by trained staff in private consultation rooms.

Tom Lye, category director for health and wellness at Tesco, said: “With all the drama of VAR and penalties, this summer’s football will inevitably set pulses racing right across the UK – so there’s no better time to check on your heart health.

“While the football is on, we’ve got tens of thousands of free blood pressure checks available every week, making it easy for fans to keep one eye on their health and another on the football.”

High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart attacks and strokes, yet many people remain undiagnosed.

Generally, ideal blood pressure is considered to be between 90 over 60 and 120 over 80.

High blood pressure is considered to be 140 over 90 or higher.

Treatment for high blood pressure includes lifestyle changes, such as cutting down salt and taking more exercise, as well as ACE inhibitors or angiotensin-2 receptor blockers (ARBs).

Professor Bryan Williams OBE, chief scientific and medical officer at the British Heart Foundation, said: “High blood pressure is often called the ‘silent killer’ because it usually has no symptoms, meaning many people are unaware they are living with this dangerous condition.

“But over time, untreated high blood pressure can quietly damage your blood vessels, increasing your risk of life‑changing conditions like heart attacks and strokes.
