DESPITE being hundreds of miles from the nearest fishing village or pier, Worcester knows how to do fish and chips.

Dozens of businesses around the city serve a chippy tea in one way or another, ranging from a traditional takeaway to more modern fusions with Mediterranean cuisine.

In Worcester, there are currently four chippy’s with at least a 4.7 rating out of 5 on Google Reviews.

Ambleside Fish Bar

Sat just off its namesake Ambleside Drive, Ambleside Fish Bar has been a favourite among residents from around the corner and across the city for many years.

Ambleside Fish Bar has picked up its 4.7 rating with 610 reviews, more than any other highly-rated chippy in the city.

“How they manage to serve delicious food, with generous portions in this economic climate remains a mystery.

“The cost of ingredients, oil, electricity, rates, staff, etc., must mean they do what they do for very little profit. It’s no wonder they have a 4.7 rating.”

Just off Bromyard Road in St Johns sits Hooked.

Ran by husband and wife team Louka and Lia Nicodemou, the chippy has become well-known for its creative seasonal menus, including battered mince pies and Creme Eggs, alongside its selection of high-quality classics.

With an average of 4.7 from 374 reviews, Hooked has proven it has popularity.

Alongside its plentiful fish offerings, the chippy also offers chicken and lamb kebabs.

It has earned its 4.7 rating from 352 reviews.

“The owner is always in there maintaining the quality and ensuring you get great customer service and, of course, great food. This little gem is well worth a visit.”
