Three Worcestershire Poundland stores at risk as brand on brink of administration

The 3 remaining Worcestershire Poundland stores are at risk as the retailer sits at the brink of administration.

There are fears that 12,000 jobs and 600 stores may be put at risk as the company prepares to file a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

This would give the business 10 working days of breathing space from creditors to secure a potential rescue deal.

The discount chain is due to enter insolvency after owner Gordon Brothers rejected a takeover offer from Irish real estate firm Martin Property Group, which management named as their preferred bidder earlier this month.

Gordon Brothers – which only bought Poundland last year for £1 – launched a sale process for the retailer at the start of September.

The business could be carved up by a series of acquisitions, with Wilko and The Range owner CDS Superstores, Poundstretcher owner Fortress and TG Jones owner Modella all understood to be interested in buying parts of the Poundland business.

Worcester’s Poundland shut in August 2025, followed by Droitwich’s location in December 2025.

Both stores had taken over former premises used by Wilko, with the premises now used by Mountain Warehouse and Iceland respectively.

The chain still operates stores in Malvern, Bromsgrove, and Kidderminster.
