A RARE solar eclipse is plunging Worcestershire into darkness next week and is set to treat stargazers to one of 2026’s standout celestial events.
Skywatchers across the county will have a chance to witness one of the most impressive celestial events visible from the UK in decades on Wednesday, August 12 .
It is expected to be the most dramatic solar eclipse in the UK since 1999, with around 90% of the sun expected to be obscured across much of Britain.

When are the best timings to see the solar eclipse in Worcestershire in 2026?
According to the BBC Sky at Night, the solar eclipse will be seen over the West Midlands between 6.15pm and 8.05pm.
The peak time of the eclipse will be at 7.11pm, with 91.8% of the sun covered.
How to safely watch a solar eclipse?
Anyone planning to watch the eclipse should never look directly at the sun without approved eclipse glasses or suitable solar filters.
Government guidance warns that ordinary sunglasses do not provide enough protection.
The advice states that regular sunglasses reduce glare but still allow harmful solar radiation to reach the retina and should not be used to view an eclipse.
