An engineering firm has been named a finalist in two national industry awards.
Wickens Engineering, based in Worcester, has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 ATF Professional Vehicle Recycling Awards.
The awards celebrate companies that are raising standards in vehicle recycling and winners will be announced at the Coventry Building Society Arena on November 26.
Their first nomination is for the Solutions Innovation Award, recognising their Batt-Rack: Controlled Battery Storage system.

Lois Taylor, marketing manager at Wickens Engineering, said: “We’re incredibly proud.
“Everything we make is designed, built and installed by our team here in Worcester, so this is real recognition for local engineering.
“Batt-Rack came from listening to customers who were worried about storing electric car batteries safely, and our engineers came up with the answer.
“To be shortlisted twice, against companies from across the UK, is a brilliant moment for everyone at Wickens.”
As electric vehicles reach end-of-life, recyclers are faced with the complex challenge of safely handling lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat and catch fire.

The Batt-Rack system, designed and built in Worcester, addresses this risk with built-in fire protection features.
Each shelf contains an individual sprinkler, and the unit can be fitted with sensors to detect rising temperatures before a fire starts.
A heavy-duty shutter also keeps batteries secure during storage.
The system was launched earlier this year and has already attracted strong interest from recyclers across the UK.

Wickens’ second nomination is for the Vehicle Recycling Equipment Company Award, which recognises excellence in customer service and long-term industry commitment.
The firm has been designing, manufacturing, and installing heavy-duty steel storage systems for more than 50 years from its Worcester base.
One customer, Viking Auto Dismantlers, reported gaining 25 per cent more yard space thanks to their equipment.
The company offers a full range of bespoke steel storage solutions, from racking and mezzanine floors to rack-clad buildings.
All products are designed and manufactured in-house.
Wickens Engineering is a SEMA-certified manufacturer and operates to ISO 9001, CE, and UKCA standards.
