Man fighting for his life after house fire in Evesham

A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after a house fire in Evesham.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Mill Street on Wednesday afternoon (May 6), after reports of a fire at a home.

Firefighters attended and rescued a man in his 60s from the building.

Police were also called to the scene and have confirmed that the man was taken to hospital, where he is in a “serious critical condition”.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed but it is not believed to be suspicious.

“Emergency services were called at around 4.30pm yesterday to a house fire on Mill Street in Evesham,” a West Mercia Police spokesperson said.

“A man, in his 60s, was rescued by the fire service and was taken to hospital. He remains in a serious critical condition.

“Officers attended to assist the fire service.

“At this stage, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.”

On Wednesday evening, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they had sent two fire crews to the scene, who used two hose reel jets and breathing equipment to battle the blaze.

The surrounding area was cordoned off by police, and paramedics were also in attendance.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident at a private address on Mill Street in Evesham 4.27pm and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor with critical care paramedic to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition who they provided advanced life support to before conveying him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.”
