Communal garden at Worcester retirement scheme set for upgrade

An improved communal garden is set to bring new benefits for residents in a retirement community.

The outdoor space at Parkheath in Hallow, a retirement living scheme in Worcester, will be upgraded with new garden furniture and accessories, replacing older composite pieces that many residents found too heavy to use comfortably.

The project was made possible through funding from Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest.

It aims to create a more attractive and accessible environment for residents to relax and socialise.

Ria Harrison, retirement housing officer for Parkheath at Platform Housing Group, said: “The communal garden is such an important space for residents at Parkheath and we’re really pleased to be able to improve it for everyone living there.

“The new furniture will make the space much more accessible and enjoyable, giving residents somewhere comfortable to sit together, socialise and spend time outdoors.

“Projects like this can make a real difference in helping people feel more connected and reducing social isolation.”

The improvements will benefit all residents living at the 27 flats and encourage greater social interaction and inclusion.

The project was developed with support from Platform’s Community Engagement team and estate staff, and was based on direct feedback from residents.

Nicholas Richardson, Platform’s Community Engagement Officer, said: “This project is a great example of colleagues working together and listening to what customers were telling us.

“Residents explained that the existing furniture was difficult for them to move and use, so we worked together to find a practical solution that would make the communal garden more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”

To mark the improvements, residents plan to host a community tea party once the new furniture is in place.

Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest fund supports a wide range of projects that promote wellbeing, inclusion, and community cohesion.
