HOLD your horses! Take time to look and see and take some photos!
Photography teaches us to stop a while and to see with new eyes all that is around us.
To a photographer, the world is alive with attractive subjects to record, designs to create and people to portrait.
And then there are horses!
Perhaps for the first time in the 135 years’ existence of the club and by kind invitation of the authorities, a posse of Worcestershire Camera Club photographers arrived at the Worcester Races recently, intent on capturing memorable, perhaps unforgettable images of horses at speed.
Could we trap their terrifying speed in our lenses, the terrible thunder of their hooves on the final straight?
Just one of our summer club events, our visit to the races underlined the benefits of being part of a club with a sense of camaraderie and of adventure.
The club offers a range of options to help develop skills in varying types of photography.
For the Worcester Races, our photographers used digital cameras and long lenses.
But many of our members use mobile phones for everyday photography.
With skills in capturing and processing phone camera images, high quality is achieved, even to competition standard.
Our print exhibition at The Hive last autumn contained good numbers of phone images.
It was hard to tell which they were.
Mobile phones work well for modern or contemporary images, perhaps equally with film or digital cameras, as well as ‘street photography’ – that is to say, capturing everyday life in public spaces.
Wildlife photography demands more technically advanced equipment and techniques.
Landscape and seascape photography is a favourite.
Planes and trains and machines and buildings – through club life members can develop skills in all these areas and, if desired, aim for a diploma.
One-to-one help is offered from the word go.
The club invites applications for membership for the new club season beginning on September 1.
