Aldi has launched a special offer on British strawberries to help growers manage a significant yield of the fruit.
Shoppers can now get two 227g packs for just £2 as part of a limited-time deal running until Wednesday, August 26.
The supermarket said the offer supports UK growers who are dealing with a sudden surplus of ripe strawberries following a spell of sustained sunshine.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “This summer’s sunshine has helped produce a bumper crop of British strawberries, with a large volume expected to ripen at the same time.

“By cutting the price we’re helping our growers sell more juicy British strawberries, while giving customers even better value on a seasonal favourite.”
“Aldi is making it even easier for shoppers to pick up great-value, seasonal British strawberries, and support our suppliers who will continue to receive the same contracted price for their fruit.”
High sunshine levels have resulted in a glut of strawberries ripening at once, putting pressure on growers.
Aldi said the promotion is intended to help move more strawberries through the market, alleviate pressure on the UK crop and reduce the risk of excess fruit being diverted into alternative channels.
The retailer also confirmed that suppliers will continue to receive the same contracted price for their fruit, despite the temporary discount in stores.
Aldi August Specialbuys feature garden gadgets
Aldi has unveiled a fresh batch of Specialbuys for August, which includes its Garden Tiny range.
This includes the Manual Sweeper for £39.99, designed to make light work of fallen leaves, twigs and garden debris.
Additionally, there is the Winter Greenhouse (£14.99), which can help protect plants from colder weather, while the Extendable Rake and Broom (£5.99) is designed to make clearing patios and awkward corners easier.
Some student bedroom items are included in the Specialbuys, like the £69.99 Vacuum Cleaner Robot, which Aldi says offers a saving of 65% compared with a comparable Eufy model costing £199.
There’s even a Hot Air Multistyler for £24.99, arriving on Sunday, August 23, for anyone wanting to recreate a salon-style blow-dry on a student budget.
