Decision on traveller site due next week after a number of objections

A decision on a controversial traveller site will be made next week after the scheme drew significant opposition.

The application, for land at the junction of the B4204 and New Road, between Martley and Tenbury Wells, seeks permission for two static caravans, two touring caravans, fencing, sheds, and associated works.

The proposal is retrospective in part, with access, hardstanding, and fencing already in place.

Hanley Parish Council has objected strongly, citing concerns over highway safety, countryside encroachment, ecology, drainage, and the impact on the nearby Grade II listed Fox Inn.

Malvern Hills District Council said 37 third-party objections had been submitted, alongside further anonymous comments.

Planning officers, however, say the site is acceptable in principle because the district cannot currently show a five-year supply of traveller pitches.

They also note that highways, landscape, and conservation consultees have raised concerns, but none have recommended refusal outright.

The application will go before the Northern Area Planning Committee on June 3, where councillors will decide the site’s fate.
