Family plea to bikers to join funeral ride in memory of 16-year-old who died in crash

MOTORBIKERS in droves are expected to join the funeral procession of a 16-year-old with “a heart of gold” who died in a car crash.

The family of Oscar Mason, a teenager who died in a car crash in Defford on September 12, have issued a plea to all bikers to join their son’s funeral procession.

The teenager was a passenger in a blue Volkswagen Polo which left the A4104 between Defford and Dunstall, near Pershore, and hit a tree at about 9.20pm.

An 18-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while over the drink and drug limits.

The family hope the community will rally together to help lead their son’s procession, which will leave the Punchbowl Pub in Ronkswood at 10:30am on October 10.

Oscar is described as a teenager with a “heart of gold”, known for his “cheekiness and playful nature”.

In a statement, his family said: “Oscar was truly the most amazing boy. He was smart, caring and always willing to help others.

“No matter what life threw at him, he always had a big, beautiful smile on his face.

“We’ll miss his mischievous giggle when he was up to no good, seeing his face appear through the glass door when he came home, the cuddles before bed, and the ‘sweet dreams, sleep tight, I love yous.’

“He will be remembered for his infectious energy, his love for life, and the happiness he brought to everyone around him. Forever sixteen, forever loved, our beautiful boy.”

Mr Mason was incredibly talented at most sports but had a particular interest in Judo that “captured his heart”.

Oscar joined Worcester Judo Club more than two years ago and quickly became a valued member of the club community.

“He became family, and every session was brighter for having him there,” the club said.

“He gave everything he had in competition and brought home gold, and we were so proud of him, and we always will be.

“That smile could light up the whole dojo, and beneath it was a heart of gold.

“Oscar was kind and loyal, and he loved his brothers fiercely.

“We have all been devastated by his loss.”

The family has encouraged everyone to share information about their son’s motorbike procession and to help with his send-off.
